Sand Moor has an impressive reputation over the years for the standard of its golfers.

Sand Moor had produced many fine golfers including Amateur Champions Alex Kyle (1939), Iain Pyman (1993) and English Champion, Stuart Cage (1992) all of whom represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup. In 1999 Ben Mason and Simon Dyson were included in the Walker Cup Team Squad.

The club also has a remarkable record of being Yorkshire Club Champions no less than 11 times from 1987 through to 2000 (23 times in total), the English Club Champions in 1994 and 1995 and has won the ‘Mackenzie Medallion’ three times!

The Men's Section has an active and varied golf programme throughout the year.

The following summary gives some indication of the men’s golfing activity at Sand Moor:

 

  • Saturday Monthly Medals: Usually played on the first Saturday of the month from May to October. Three Divisions. Winners qualify for the ‘Annual Medal’.
  • Sunday Monthly Medals: Single Division. Winners qualify for the ‘Annual Medal’.
  • Midweek Monthly Medals: Single Division. Best three qualify for the ‘Annual Mid-Week Medal’.
  • Major Competitions: There are over 10 Major Competitions held during the main season details of which are listed in the Members Handbook and in the Members' section of the website.
  • Winter Turkey Trots: Saturday ‘fun’ competitions, from early November to Christmas provide winners and runners up with turkey vouchers whisky and wine.
